Curriculum

Religious Education
Throughout the year, we will be teaching about Revelation, The Church, Celebration and Life in Christ. We aim to engage and equip our children with the knowledge, understanding, skills and belief to be good citizens within the local and universal community, drawing inspiration from Divine Revelation, including the whole world around them.
English
As well as our focus on phonics, speaking and listening and reading, we will continue looking at sentence structures and grammar. Throughout the year, English will be closely linked to our topic work. We will use a number of fiction and non-fiction books for the basis of our writing
Mathematics
We will start the year with lots of work around number, before studying measure and looking at data, while also solving problems along the way.
For more information about the learning we do in Year 1, please see our class newsletter or the Curriculum page of our website.
Homework:
Spellings will continue on Monday and tested on Friday. There is no need to return the sheets to school.
Your child will be bringing home a sheet with a Bronze Speaking and Listening Challenge on it. Please find something they can recite and practise at home ready to perform in school. If you are not sure about what to choose please ‘grab’ me at the gate and I’ll help!
