St Joseph's R.C. Primary School
Welcome to Year 1
Year 1 - I bet you can't believe they have done a whole year of school already!
It is such an important time at the beginning of year to have smooth transition from Reception. Year 1 is a continuation of the amazing foundations that have been set in Reception.
As we move through they year the transition from continuous provision to more structured learning begins at the children's pace. They are the driving force behind this.

Curriculum

Religious Education
Throughout the year, we will be teaching about Revelation, The Church, Celebration and Life in Christ. We aim to engage and equip our children with the knowledge, understanding, skills and belief to be good citizens within the local and universal community, drawing inspiration from Divine Revelation, including the whole world around them.
English
As well as our focus on phonics, speaking and listening and reading, we will continue looking at sentence structures and grammar. Throughout the year, English will be closely linked to our topic work. We will use a number of fiction and non-fiction books for the basis of our writing.
Mathematics
We will start the year with lots of work around number, before studying shape, time and mass, while also solving problems along the way.
For more information about the learning we do in Year 1, please see our class newsletter or the Curriculum page of our website.
