About St Joseph's School

Welcome to St. Joseph's

St Joseph’s a small semi-rural Roman Catholic primary school nestled in beautiful moorland surroundings above the mill town of Darwen in East Lancashire.  We strongly believe that St Joseph’s is a distinctive, inspiring and exciting place where children, Parents, staff, governors and our community work together to provide opportunities for our children to achieve their potential, explore and develop the gift that they are and grow alongside others as children of God.

Our foundation stage nurtures our children’s curiosity and sense of wonder it engages them in a creative and vibrant curriculum. We provide a safe and caring environment where your children are given strong foundations enabling them to develop as reflective and independent learners

In Key stage one and two we continue to provide a rich creative and exciting curriculum both in and outside of the classroom. We encourage the individual skills and talents of all our children and provide support challenge and celebration along the way.

We offer a wide range of opportunities for our children – breakfast club, sport, music, arts, crafts, gardening, cooking, we also have our own hen coop which the children are involved with as well as a thriving school council and parent council.

Our children and indeed the whole community are encouraged to have a constructive voice in the life and continuous improvement of our school.

We are a feeder school for our nearest Roman Catholic high school, St Bede's in Blackburn.  We have excellent links with St Bedes and are proud of the transition our children make into high school when they leave us.
